When a child is really unfortunately assessed for autism, parents should choose appropriate treatments for their needs, including speech therapy, game therapy, behavioral therapy, etc.

If your child has been assessed as having autism, then they should be supported early to help them adjust to their daily lives and learning environment so that they can grow up and develop their potential. The Social Welfare Department and the Education Bureau provide services for pre-school and school-age children respectively. The Department of Health and the Hospital Authority also provide follow-up services.

 

In addition, many social service organizations also provide non-funded self-financing services to fill the gaps in services. . These services are self-funded, and low-income families can tell the social service agencies whether there are any fee reduction arrangements.

 

Early Education and Training Centre

Service Description
It is designed mainly for disabled children from birth to the age of two, providing them with early intervention programmes with particular emphasis on the role of the disabled child’s family. Disabled children aged two to under six can also receive the service if they are not concurrently receiving other pre-school rehabilitation services, which will facilitate their integration into the mainstream education system.

 

Eligibility for the Service
Disabled children from birth to six.

 

Integrated Programme in Kindergarten-cum-Child Care Centre

Service Description
It provides training and care to mildly disabled pre-schoolers in an ordinary kindergarten-cum-child care centre with a view to facilitating their future integration into the mainstream education as well as in the society.

 

Eligibility for the Service
Children aged two to six who are either:
– mildly mentally handicapped;
– sightly physically handicapped and without serious mobility problem;
– mildly or moderately auditorily impaired; or
– mildly or moderately visually impaired.

 

Special Child Care Centre

Service Description
It provides special training and care for children with moderate to severe disabilities to facilitate their growth and development, helping them prepare for primary education.

 

Eligibility for the Service
Children aged two to under six who have not yet started primary school and are either:
– moderately or severely mentally handicapped;
– moderately or severely physically handicapped;
– deaf or with severe to profound hearing impairment;
– blind or with severe visual impairment; or
– autistic.
